Just Plain Weird

Thank goodness this book was free....even though it was, I still feel cheated of the time it took to read it. I have a bad habit of always assuming a book will get better as I read it, this one did not. I hate to be hard, but this is four hours of my life that I will never get back. I love most all genres of books, but I'm not even sure where this one fits. There is a lot of sex, that's what the game is about, but the ending was rather a letdown, with way too many questions unanswered. Don't waste your time.

when I read a book I like to finish it. Took me a while to get to the end of this one. My main reason for finishing it was to find out how far Elly got in the game. But the end of it was such a let down. I have no clue how far she got or what happened. It fail flat for me. Ok they found all the bodies but was Elly one of them or did she set them all free. Not a good ending at all.

After spending a few hours reading this book, I was extremely disappointed by the ending. Yes, they found bodies, but did Elly finally win? What was in the small box? If she lost, was her body among those that were found? Way too many unanswered questions. Thank god this book was free.

I have developed several hundred websites over the last decade, optimized them for Google, and have literally made millions for my clients. I'm always looking for a new edge in advertising, for myself and for my clients.

Ca$hvertising offers that edge. I was skeptical when I noticed that the book had only five-star ratings, I wondered if the reviews were fake. By the time I was halfway through the second chapter, I realized that this book absolutely delivered.

Whether your focus is on print ads, or in web promotion like myself, Ca$hvertising breaks down WHY people respond to certain ads. Once the author explains why people buy, he offers ideas on how you can make those people your customers. Whitman explains exactly how you can tap into the desires that all humans are naturally born with. These aren't theories or assumptions, he backs these techniques up with concrete psychological studies.

The second chapter, on the 17 principles of consumer psychology, is worth its weight in gold. All humans are born with a built-in set of desires, and the author explains exactly how you can tap into them. While most of the book is geared towards print advertising, I found that a great deal of it could be applied towards internet marketing. Plus, the guy is downright funny, and the book is written in a conversational tone that makes you forget that you're actually learning something.

Let me cut to the chase. Every day that you don't own this book, you're losing money. Buy this book today, and it will teach you how to persuade people to pay for your product or service.

Are You Kidding Me?

So let me get this straight. In the last ten months I've spent close to three thousand dollars learning the art of copywriting. I get suckered into all the big name guru's copywriting "courses".( Most of which are really just puffed up e-books.) Then I discover this absolute gem. For less than fifteen dollars I get something more valuable than all my other books and courses...COMBINED! I'm not kidding either folks. Don't get caught up in all the guru hype and waste your time searching for bright shiny objects. Everything you need to know to become an expert in marketing or copywriting you'll find right here. My copy is soaked with a highlighter and every page is dog-eared. Don't miss it. Thank you, Mr. Whitman.

Practical, timeless

Don't be turned off by the book's cheesy title or cover. Whitman's advice is top-notch.

I run a small startup, and I frequently browse marketing books and websites, hoping to give it an edge. It's easy to come across marketing advice, but it's surprisingly hard to find good advice. Authors frequently hop on trends, tout new advertising mediums, or simply apply techniques from their favorite companies.

Whitman's approach favors the fundamentals. Ca$hvertising synthesizes a large body of marketing research, and it provides a framework for applying these findings. The framework is focused on the customer, and what he or she is thinking. The book is a best-practices manual for how to win people's attention and get them to act.

The writing is accessible, and as Whitman's voice comes through, you find yourself thinking about advertising differently. Where other books might have you come up with marketing plans or play around on, say, Adwords, Ca$hvertising gets you to focus on the right aspects of your message. The book consists of many advertising tips and trick-of-the-trade. It covers practical questions that you might (or should) find yourself asking, such as what colors to use and how to anchor your message.

The bulk of the book goes over these in a list-like fashion. But Ca$hvertising is much more than a random collage of tips, research, and examples/anecdotes. As I got accustomed to Whitman's point of view, I began to see how his advice stems from a coherent and useful framework, and in a very short time I began to think more critically about marketing.

Whitman further excels at summarizing a large body of research in a concise, accessible, and even entertaining manner. He lets you know when an issue is all but settled, or when it's complex and controversial; and where relevant, he points you to further sources.

Marketing books tend to be filled with 'radical' advice, and further complicating things, many large companies and popular marketing campaigns are also pretty radical and out there. It's easy to think that simply by being extreme and hoping on the latest fad you can be successful as well. But there are two sides to every correlation - and even though every successful company is pretty 'out there' in their own way, not every company that is 'out there' is successful. In fact, most aren't. This is why Whitman's back-to-the-basics approach is so valuable. It forces you to think with your head, rather than your heart or ego. Where other marketing books hop on trends and pretend to offer "new" advice, Ca$hvertising takes the wisdom of past experience and research, and encourages you to apply it in your own manner. His book is at once highly practical and somewhat timeless.

This writer is getting better and better. Have read all her books and they are brilliant. Really enjoy that they are set in the south of England and the time period that has been chosen.

London and The War

I truly enjoyed this book, it was well written and I liked the characters. It's basically about two girls after the war, they both go to nursing school and when they first met and found out each other's family name, even though liking each other, became estranged until they met in nursing school and realized it was silly to keep up feuds that had nothing to do with them. It follows their life after the war and getting on in nursing school and on with their lives. It is such a great story, it keeps you glued to the book till the end. I am looking forward to reading more of Ms. Weaver's books.

In the early 1800s John Bell moved his family from North Carolina to the rich bottom lands along the Red River in Robertson County, Tennessee. Bell, an elder in the Red River Baptist Church, was well-liked and respected by most in the community and prospered as a farmer. As Bell worked hard to raise his family and to carve out a living, the unusual, unexpected, and terrifying happened. Between 1817 and 1821 the Bell family were allegedly tormented day and night by some heinous menacing spirit called a “witch” known as “Kate.” Kate’s remonstrations and activities were witnessed by many in the community. The events eventually led to the death of John Bell, and he is the only person whose demise is attributed to the work of a spirit. Written only seventy-three years after the awful events transpired, this is the story of the Bell Witch. This is the eyewiteness account by a member of the Bell family.

Our Family Trouble The Story of the Bell Witch of Tennessee by Richard Williams Bell

This account has the distinction of being composed by someone who actually lived through the Bell Witch incident of 1817-1820. Richard Williams Bell was one of the younger sons of Old Jack Bell.

Mr. Bell walks the reader through the coming of the spirit, giving the story as he remembers it, collaborated by conversations with his brothers and sister who also lived through the alleged haunting.

He next goes into the visits of witch-finders, a series of tricks by the “witch” in revealing her identity, and exactly when the spirit became known as Old Kate, identifying itself with Kate Batts, a local woman who lost on a land deal with John Bell.
Now he guides the reader through the various afflictions suffered by his father and sister Betsy. The two were both harassed by the alleged witch, but John (Old Jack) Bell was finally harassed to his death. Eventually the “spirit” left only to return after seven years as predicted.

Williams Bell tells of the “witch’s” dislike for slaves, and that it could tell even when one was slipped into the house in secret and then hidden under a bed. He speaks of how his brother Joel was beaten by the poltergeist, and how various people tried to either remove the witch or actually kill it without success.

He tells the reader of his mother’s illness, the witch’s concern for Lucy Bell, and the miraculous delivery of hazelnuts and grapes.

Finally he tells the story of his father’s death, alleged slain by the witch. The mysterious vial of foul smelling medicine is described along the with the changing of the color of the fireplace flames when the vial was thrown into it.

Finally, he describes the return after seven years.

Some of the legends of the Bell Witch are noticeably missing from this account. I can only point out that Richard Williams Bell lived in the haunted house, and that it was his father and sister who were tormented. Thus, he should know best.

Authentic Bizarre Americana

The Bell Witch was so thoroughly documented by such a wide array of witnesses , including Andrew Jackson , that it can't be dismissed as a hoax . It is still unexplained as to just exactly what the " witch " was but it was not a witch in the terms that people today would use . The " witch " , in my opinion was probably a poltergeist . There is no extraneous guesses by the author , Mr . Bell , just the facts that he lived through with his family . Perhaps not the best written be certainly the most honest account of the Bell Witch .

The Classic AMERICAN SHORT STORY Megapack

Fairly heavy going in the beginning, Edgar Allen Poe is not for the fainthearted. However, then the following stories were written by Mark Twain, O. Henry and Jack London and were well worth ploughing through the earlier stories. An enjoyable read.
