A Very Different Story- and a Good One

This book shows the skill of this writer. The elements are very basic. Small town country setting with small time inhabitants. Divorce, genuine friendship, difficult families, and just maybe love, drive the journey of chasing a dream and of making it happen against the odds. What makes the story so riveting is that the people are so very real as anyone with a small town upbringing will relate to instantly. A really good read

The Real truth about Underage Drinking

I highly recommend this book for parents of elementary and pre-teen children. The American Pediatric association has stated that children should be educated on the dangers of alcohol five years before being exposed to drinking. It would make a huge statement to our children if they would purchase the book, read it themselves and then read it with their children or ask them to read it. Dr. Uhr presents her material in a straight-forward and yet, engaging manner.

One of the best I've read

Ever had a book that gave you a huge "Aha!" moment? This was one of those for me. I work in a small nonprofit and we have struggled for years with the inconsistencies between our services and our mission. In addition, as we began to measure our outcomes, we realized how unfocused we are. David Hunter's book was just the prescription we needed. It explains clearly the relationship between mission, audience, programs/services, outcomes, outputs, etc. It provides practical instruction and examples to help you identify where dis-alignment exists and work to straighten it up. Then it goes a step further by explaining how to keep that alignment in place and keep inching closer to higher impact by integrating data reviews and program improvements into the organization. Don't get me wrong, this won't be easy and will be a commitment and culture change for us, but I am so thankful we now have a roadmap to fix ourselves instead of stumbling along on our own.

Nick takes twenty minutes to kill someone and, like the vampire bat, must immediately urinate afterwards.

Deftly crafted and packed with action, gore, and just the right amount of laughs, Dark Moonlighting is an exceptional read due to the author's treatment of the overall subject matter. Nowadays, the key to getting valid mileage out of the well-worn vampire mythology is to rewrite or readdress the myths themselves. Treating vampirism as a virus-induced condition is innovative, and allows Haworth's distillation of the myths to be a predominantly physiological one. The book offers just the right amount of blood, seductiveness, and self-effacing angst, but the retooling of the mythology will definitely appeal to the more erudite and demanding vampire aficionados.

helluva good vamp read!

hilarious from the first line. With a plausible, (not supernatural or preturnatural or whatevernatural) explanation of vampirism. a selfish old narcissistic vamp with too much on his plate and handling those issues with the same amount of idiocy that you or I would.
My wife was reading it(laughing her head off) on her kindle and kept reading parts to me until I had to hand her MY kindle. "Damnit woman! Just put it on there and quit telling me the freakin' story!" -Nutshell_GREAT FREAKIN' BOOK!

When I started this book, I wasn't sure I'd even be able to finish it. it. But,I was sadly mistaken. After about 4 pages I was hooked. It held my attention through the entire book. I thought the whole virus take on vampires was a very intriguing thought, and a whole new theory. I tried to imagine what working 3high profile jobs would be like,but it was tiresome. I loved the main character and liked the way the author didn't portray him as an Adonis like so.many others do. He actually made him seem almost human. A very enjoyable read,can't wait for number two.

Not your typical vampire story

I'm really not much into the paranormal craze, but this book sounded like it might be worth a try. I love it when I'm right! Very fun book about a vampire with a conscience, who only kills the dregs of society when he has the thirst for blood. Witty, well-written, with plenty of sarcasm and apathy to make the main character quite likeable. Moves along at a good pace, with enough side characters to make his life complicated yet not too many to overwhelm the reader. Not your typical vampire fare. Found out at the end that this is one of a series but for the most part, this book stands alone by itself. And I'll be looking forward the second installment.

A nice and well placed guide

I still wonder how did they come up with the top ten but nevertheless this is a good guide for the ten places picked to come up with a book about the places in Rome. The descriptions and the tips on how to enjoy the place are well written and you can see that it is really done professionally. It would have been better if they have put in better details on how to get to the said places by transport. I happen to see this book after reading Tokyo: Helpful Tips To Fully Maximize Your Stay In Japan's Capital which is also a good book guide if you'll be traveling to Tokyo.

Too many characters, not enough depth

Slightly better than the first book in the series, which I pretty much hated, but still has a lot of the same problems -- too many characters and a lot of skimming over or skipping past major details. I thought this one did a better job of showing how practicing yoga helped the characters grow and deal with the challenges in their lives. Still, with a book this short that follows the lives of five central characters, you aren't going to get anything very deep. I still thought a couple of the characters could have been eliminated. I also wanted more of Graciela's story line. Her story gets really interesting about halfway through, and then it's just dropped for a while, and she doesn't appear as much in the second half of the book. That, and an abrupt ending with a lot of loose ends remaining, left me feeling disappointed. There is a lot of buildup around one potential conflict that never really goes anywhere and overall the book is pretty anti-climatic.

Bravo Rain MItchell!

Bravo Rain Mitchell! I didn't think that you could top "Tales From The Yoga Studio", the first book in a 3 book series that captured my heart and tickled my funny bone but you sure did. While Head Over Heels stands on its own, and Rain brilliantly and subtly weaves what happened in "Tales..." into the plot, I highly recommend you read "Tales From The Yoga Studio" before diving into Head Over Heels. You will fall in love all over again with the 5 women Rain has created to take both an irreverent look at the commercialism of yoga while honoring the practice of yoga. Even if you have not gone into your first Down Dog, you will appreciate Rain's series for its warmth, wit, honesty, incredible character development and brilliant plot. I know I have to wait another year until the third book is released so I may just have to reread the first two books to stay in touch with my new found friends, Graciela, Lee, Stephanie, Katherine and Imani.

You call that an ending?

I enjoyed the first book, Tales from the Yoga Studio, quite a bit. Great characters. I was enjoying this book too, when suddenly it ended. No wrapping up, no seeing everything come together, we didn't even get to know what happened in the last scene between the main character and her love interest. I felt like the author had been called for dinner and just stopped writing. I hear there is a third book, so maybe I'll be satisfied by that, but really, when I buy a book I expect there to be a conclusion, even if there is a sequel.
