About the Author
Shawn Tieskotter is a dedicated outdoorsman who has shared his passion for life in all 50 states and 25 other countries. From lobstering in Maine to cruising the beaches of Baja and from ice-climbing in the Swiss Alps to hang-gliding in Brazil and scuba diving Honduras, Shawn has truly experienced the thrill and wonder that can only be found in nature.
Shawn's quest to experience as many of the Earth's wonders as possible has led him on a 3-day camel trip in the Sahara Desert, a 4-month camping trip in Alaska and even a drive through Canada to the Arctic Circle.
In addition to hiking the highest peak in North Africa, he spent a summer in his home state, Colorado, hiking 20 of the Rocky Mountains' 12-14,000 foot peaks. Not being limited to physical conquests, Shawn also studied Spanish in Costa Rica and Guatemala.
Currently, Shawn's greatest outdoor passion is kiteboarding, which he considers to be the pinnacle of outdoor sports. Though his search for the perfect activity is over, he continues to search for the best spots and the friendliest people on the planet to pursue and share his passion for kiting with.
His boundless enthusiasm for the sport drove Shawn to get involved in efforts to make the sport as safe as it can be and accessible to as many people as possible by becoming a kiting instructor. Since he couldn't find a book that fully covered the sport and gave new kiters all the information they need to get a safe and successful start in the sport, he decided to write one.
In writing this book, it is his hope that you will find the sport of kiting just as exciting and rewarding as he does, and that you share his commitment to safety.

Beginner -beginner...

I very much enjoyed the format of this book, as I am truly a beginner and at this time just seeking information prior to getting involved in the sport. This book gives clear outlines and introduction and I believe is better preparing me for my lessons. Most of all I appreciate the many references for safety and the need for professional instruction, which again... As a novice seems obvious, but probably can't be overstated. Looking forward to taking this book's info with me to my kite surf clinic and will update my review after I've really had some practical experience with it. (But I do love the layout of the book and pictures!)

Everything to know about Kite Surfing

This book has everything you need to know to get started kite surfing. Now all I need to do is get in shape and I am ready to go. As a complete novice I felt like this books covered the basics and also seems to have information for more advanced riders. Worth a read if you would like to learn more about this sport.

Great information - clear and precise

This is a wonderful book - clear and concise reference. Wish this had been available when I was learning to kite. It would have spared me a lot of frustration, and clarified many of the points that were confusing during lessons.
