This book offers one of the most fruitful and popular practices of Christian devotion: the Way of the Cross, or Stations of the Cross, from a Carmelite perspective. The reader has the opportunity to make the Way of the Cross with five inspiring Carmelite saints: John of the Cross, Teresa of Avila, Thérèse of Lisieux, Edith Stein (Teresa Benedicta of the Cross) and Elizabeth of the Trinity.
In effect, the book provides five different Ways of the Cross which the reader can use for prayer. A complete set of reflections from each saint includes a brief Scripture passage, followed by a selection from the saint’s writings; footnotes identify the source document for each.
These saints have a perennial message for us, helping us to mine, as St. John of the Cross described it, the deep, inexhaustible love and riches of Christ, especially demonstrated in his Passion, death and resurrection.
The Way of the Cross with the Carmelite Saints is an ideal prayer resource for the Lenten season, or for personal prayer and reflection at any time throughout the year.

A must for Eucharistic Adoration
By Texas Reader
I bought this book in print several years ago in order to meditate on the Passion during Adoration, I "journeyed" through the Stations of the Cross with individual Carmelite saints. Each Carmelite saint, including St. John of the Cross, St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (St. Edith Stein), St. Teresa of Avila, St. Therese of the Child Jesus and Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity, has all 14 stations and with each station there is a selection of that saint's writings. Each selection of these writings are quite profound and appropriate for that Station.
I tried to make it a point to go through one set of stations (one saint at a time) per visit to the Blessed Sacrament. Reading one station and one selection of writing would bring out strong meditative actions on my part. I discovered that I could rarely make it through the 14 Stations in one hour, so I'd stay longer.
Before long, I found myself making my own notes by each Station--there was plenty of white space to do this. My notes were about my own journey to each station--my own meditations. Looking back on these meditations I found that I wanted to add even more but finally ran out of room. Then I found the Kindle version. Now, once again I can add my own mediations (a little more time consuming as I'm using the internal keypad on the Kindle, and probably not as satisfying as pen and ink). So far I haven't run out of room.
I think being able to meditate on the Stations whenever and wherever has been a profoundly deep experience for me. The thoughts of these Saints, and eventually my own added to theirs, has helped me comprehend even more of the Passion of Christ.
Anyone wishing to meditate on the Stations of the Cross for Lent, or anytime of the year, would do well to consider this book.

But that is fine. There is more than enough to help you ...
By tosca
The thoughts/ meditations on the way of the cross from the writings of 5 Carmelite saints: John of the Cross, Teresa of Avila, Therese of Lisieux, Edith Stein, and Elizabeth of the Trinity are given a separate chapter in this little book. Most center on the themes of
the privilege of sharing in the cross and on the necessity of focusing on Christ in all our trials and not on ourselves or our trials.
Each station consists of a couple sentences from the saint's writings or on a paragraph. That is it. There are no traditional
hymns, responses etc. But that is fine. There is more than enough to help you focus on the Passion.

Excellent for Way of the Cross
By MDLION
Excellent material for meditation for those who make the Way of the Cross. Five Carmelite saints are featured, four women and one man. My favorite saint, St. Therese of Lisieux, is among them. Therese encourages us to be humble, relying on the Lord's Strength and not our own. Here is some of her thought:
"[I]f I were to say to myself: I have acquired a certain virtue, and I am certain I can practice it ... This would be relying on my own strength, and when we do this, we run the risk of falling into the abyss. However, I will have the right of doing stupid things up until my death, if I am humble and remain little. Look at little children; they never stop breaking things, tearing things, falling down ... When I fall in this way, it makes me realize my nothingness more. (P.49) ... What is our humiliation at the moment is our glory later on, even in this life. (P. 43)"
St. John of the Cross, the only male Carmelite in the book, advises us:
"When something distasteful or unpleasant comes your way, remember Christ crucified and be silent. (P.3)"
How difficult this can be to do. But John encourages us to think of our reward:
"Oh, what blessings we will enjoy in the vision of the Most Blessed Trinity." (P. 17)
The book also features the thoughts of the Auschwitz martyr St. Edith Stein (St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross), Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity, and Carmelite foundress St. Teresa of Avila.
