4 stars! A quick, feel good read about two College students from opposite sides of the track.

Hero: Ryan Burnham, "Ry"/22 years old/student (senior)-University hockey player & team captain-son of a Congressman-trust fund baby/dark brown hair/amber eyes
Heroine: Daniella Cross, "Danny"/21 years old/orphan/part-time student-waitress/blond hair/hazel eyes/virgin
Sawyer Bennet is an excellent story teller! This story has a very pleasant flow, alternating between Ryan's and Danny's POV. I particularly enjoyed Ryan's.
That said I feel I need to clarify; I had read in the book description:
"So I did it. I approached her, then I pursued her, then I made her mine. And my life was saved..."
Based on that description I had thought it be one of those intense roller-coaster rides with a very dominant hero. But it is not. It is more a feel good read, borderline YA, but with sex scenes.
Ryan is a wonderful hero; he is so lovable, sweet and kind and very sexy in a cute kind of way. Danny is also a great heroine. She has had many tragedies in her life and before meeting Ryan she was barely getting by, recovering from the loss of both her parents and trying to deal with huge medical debts. Ryan and Danny pretty much fall for each other at first sight. But they have much to overcome; the difference in family status, peer pressure, a vindictive ex-girlfriend, an envious adversary and a spiteful mother....
I might have wished the story was longer and spanned a longer period of time. It's a quick read and I enjoyed it - very little anxiety, a feel-good read.

Need more of Ryan and Danny!

I really needed this book! I'm so glad I discovered it and added it to my collection. Lately, I've been reading extremely angsty books and needed a break from the tumultuous emotions. Danny, the heroine of this story was so refreshing! She is smart, funny, compassionate and kind. I can't tell you how many times I've read books where the heroine of the story is sniveling and weak. I wish there were more women like her in the books I've read. Despite all the odds against her I just knew that she would succeed in life. Ryan, the hero of this story was great too. The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars is because I wanted more of Ryan and Danny!

Before I started reading this book, I have to admit I was a little intimidated......I know absolutely NOTHING about hockey. So I was worried I wouldn't be able to follow along. After finishing Off Sides, I have come to the conclusion.....I have found my new sport to watch and learn about, especially if they have hotties like Ryan Burnham (and his friends who sound just as equally hot) on the team!
I loved Ryan's personality, hell when he was introduced he was playing Angry Birds, who hasn't played that! He was the guy who girls fantasized about; he knew he was hot, knew he was a great hockey player, and he had money. But none of that mattered to him when he saw Danny, a waitress at the diner close to college. She was not his typical girl to say the least, but he found himself with this strong attraction and desire to Danny. He knew she was not the girl his family expected him (ahem....forced) him to date as she had facial piercings, lavender colored ends on her dark blonde hair, and a waitress. His family wanted him with some like that bitch Angeline. (Even I wanted to jump in my kindle and kick this girl's ass!) But Ryan didn't care!
Danny had me laughing my ass off when she put Angeline in her place, the first night she met Ryan. She didn't take crap from no one; she didn't have time to worry about that. She was going to school, working at the diner, volunteering at a shelter, and trying to grieve both her parents' death.
After promising to go on a first date with Ryan, Danny is determined to "prove" to Ryan that they don't belong together because of their different social circles. But after riding the bus, volunteering at the shelter, etc., Ryan isn't less attracted to her....in fact he is more attracted to her and her heart and he enjoyed it! Made me swoon even more for him!
Loved the protectiveness of Paula! Danny sure did need someone in her corner to help watch over her. And Ryan had Mike and that was awesome. Mike did not care Danny wasn't in their social circle, as long as Ryan was happy.
The kissing scenes and finally the sex scenes were hot. I couldn't help but imagining this hot ass hockey player and myself in these scenes. Oops I guess I shouldn't have.....nah definitely should have! ;)
My heart broke for Danny when she was paged to Ryan's room but he didn't text her. I am so glad Ryan and Mike made it to her in time and that she thought to text Mike and let her know she was taking care of Ryan. Had she not, something terribly bad would have happened.
I wanted to crawl in my kindle and drop kick Ryan's mom and Angeline, they are terrible women! More worried about social status and being with someone because that is what is expected! And his mom is a piece of work all herself! Blackmail, really!?! What mother wouldn't be happy that their son has found someone he truly loves and they love him back, I know I would be ecstatic for my son to find someone like that! But not the Wicked Bitch of the West....a.k.a. Ryan's' mom. I am glad Ryan stands up to his parents and tells them he loves Danny so damn much it doesn't matter what they think! Loved Ryan's sister was finally coming around! Maybe she can break away from Wicked Bitches tight reign!
When Ryan presents Danny with a violin, since she had to sell hers to help pay for medical bills and drop out of Julliard, and she plays at the park, my heart exploded. Any guy that can bring happiness back to your life by giving you something that was an upsetting loss, is a keeper.
I would highly recommend this book to everyone! I fell in love with the characters and their story is awesome! I started this review so many times and deleted it because I couldn't get out what I thought; it didn't sound right....hopefully it does now! Lol!
