YOU ALWAYS HAVE ONE MORE... LAST CHANCE

"LAST CHANCE SUMMER" by Hope Ramsay brings to life a small town and their Watermelon Festival. This story features Amanda, a card carrying member of the Sandwich Generation - a single, war-widowed mom taking care of her 4 year old son and also her 80 year old early-stages dementia grandmother. It's the day of the Watermelon Festival and Amanda is feeling the stress of all she has lost - in all contexts of the word. This very short story (55 pages) packs a punch dealing with the themes of "Lost and Found". This is the latest entry in the series about the town of Last Chance (I think this makes the 10th one) and it is a look at a sweet Southern town with old-fashioned values. This is definitely a book you could loan your Mom (& I'll probably recommend the series to my Mom) and is similar to stories such as written by Debbie Macomber or Sherryl Woods. While the story's ending is a bit abrupt, it's still just as cool and refreshing as, well, a slice of cold watermelon on a hot summer day. If you get the chance to read it - enjoy!

Fun Summertime Book!

This was a fun to read short story! It was my first story by the author and I really enjoyed her style of writing. I plan on going back and reading her previous books.

The main characters were very likable and the author gave us good background info on each of them. Books that take place in the south always have some of the best characters. The location for this book is South Carolina and it doesn't disappoint.

Last Chance Summer takes place during the Watermelon Festival. Watermelon, funnel cakes, trying to win goldfish, playing games and carnival rides all make for the perfect summer book. Since this is short, you'll be able to read it all in one sitting.

I would recommend this as an entertaining short story that is a fun summer read.

Deryn Warren is the author of the Heinemann Drama title How to Make Your Audience Fall in Love with You. She is an accomplished theater and feature film director, and she teaches professional actors in Los Angeles. Contact her at DerynWarren.com. A graduate of the American Film Institute, Deryn has directed three feature films, all of which were financial successes and were brought in on time and on budget. Deryn Warren's thriller, "Black Magic Woman," was released under the Trimark label. The film starring Mark Hamill and Apollonia was produced by Marc Springer and Deryn Warren with Deryn Warren directing. It had a theatrical release in the US and in Europe, where it continues to do well. Since its release, "Black Magic Woman" has trebled its original investment. Her previous two productions, "To the Devil a Son" and "Mirror of Death," both made more than four times their original investment. In addition to United Sates and international sales the films were also shown on Showtime and HBO. Deryn has co-written screenplays and can adapt them to meet the parameters of specific budgets. She also produces the film through post-production. Deryn Warren is "bondable" on even low budget features. This is unusual for low-budget filmmaking and is added protection for the investor.Deryn Warren has also worked as an actress in London, New York and Los Angeles. In Los Angeles she directed prize winning plays including Angelica Huston in "A Garden Full of Snow." She is known for her ability to bring out exciting performances from actors, for her sense of story and for the pacing of her films. SIn addition to teaching at her own studio, she has taught The Art of Directing Actors at Arts Center in Pasadena..Streetlife Productions recently hired Deryn Warren to direct a comedy short to be used as a promo for funding a feature film. Bravo For This Book!

I cannot say enough aobut this wonderful book! Whether you are the beginning actor or the seasoned pro, this book is a must read. Ms. Warren's approach is not just a long-winded arguement for technique, but a hands-on approach to how to actually make for a better performance. Plain and simple, this book will make you a better actor! More importantly, it will give you a decisive apporach on the all-important audition. I am confident that if you are a serious actor, this book will make you better -- much better. Bravo for this well-thought out book!

Actor's Smartest Choice!

This book was recommended by the casting director of HBO and no wonder. It will make any actor improve. It should be in the library of every actor, director and theater teacher. The script analyses are brilliant. Among other things, I learned that we should use ourselves and not 'play' characters. I learned how to use humor to heighten a scene. I learned how to enhance my overall technique. This book makes you think. It is a must read for every professional actor. Succinct. Honest. Smart.

ESSENTIAL READING FOR AN ACTOR AT ANY STAGE

I am a professional actor and I found this book to be essential reading for an actor at any stage of his career. If you're just starting out, it's a must. If you're a veteran, it's amazingly useful to deepen your awareness of the acting process. I was rehearsing a play with an actor friend of mine and noticed his technique and acting were improving during the course of the rehearsals. His acting was becoming more natural and seamless. I asked him about it and he laughed saying that I had to read this book. I was amazed. My acting improved significantly. My director was so inspired that he bought the book for everyone in the production. I learned from the book the correct way to rehearse. The play was a hit and both me and my friend got great reviews. I feel as if I found religion.

Deryn Warren's book is a practical guide to acting technique. The book works through all the stages of developing a character. It relies on understanding the script and breaking it down. It helped me to understand that I needed to understand each beat of the script and have the proper motivation. I used to read a script, focus on my own lines and try to understand how I was feeling. Not anymore. Now I have a deeper understanding of my work as an actor. I break down the script into sequences and beats and I'm always looking for what I'm fighting for in the script. She uses examples and inspirational language that made it a fun read. Not only did I pick up a framework for working on a script, I learned subtle aspects of my craft that I haven't learned from any other book or teacher. From dealing with humor and how to laugh to learning how to stay grounded and feel like I'm in my own skin when working on the most difficult emotional parts of a script.

I don't know where I'd be without having read this book. I was on the verge of quitting because I wasn't feeling good about acting anymore. What was once a joy was now drudgery. After reading Deryn's book, I love rehearsing and performing again. And I'm booking more and more commercial and legit work! Thank you so much Ms. Warren. It was the best money I ever spent.

Stanton was a 19th century women's rights activist who had a complex, rationalist personal theology that changed and evolved thoughout her lifetime. Well researched book of Civil War hauntings

In the tradition of other Mark Nesbitt books, "Civil War Ghost Trails" tackles the history and the supernatural associate with critical battlefields of the American Civil War.
Instead of just writing about experiences people have had when visiting or working at the battlefield sites, Mr. Nesbitt gives a comprehensive history of what transpired during the war. From battle tactics to intense details of the conditions the soldiers experienced, you are transported back to understand why many believe there are souls that could not or would not leave.
Mr. Nebitt is best known for his series of "Ghosts of Gettysburg" books, and does include a story or two about that battlefield - but so many other sites are covered in this book. Antietam, Wilderness, Cold Harbor, Fredericksbug, and many many more.
Even if you don't believe in anything supernatural, just reading this for the history is a good reason to purchase this book.

Archer & Ivy

This is a very basic story with not much of a storyline, very little angst, no cliffhanger. Archer is a rich boy whose Dad doesn't respect him & dumps a loser hotel in his lap. Archer turns the hotel into a private couple spa resort & it becomes an incredible success. Archer & his friends are at a wedding lamenting about how much they DON'T want to ever get tied down & even put a million dollar bet on the loser who falls in love first. This bet should be a problem but ends up being nothing really in the end. Ivy is the younger sister of Archer's best friend Gage so she is untouchable - but this is the only woman that Archer wants. Archer & Ivy have an amazing little moment outside at the wedding & end up alone together in bed at his house, but her brother is right across the hall. Archer is building a smaller, more intimate, more sensual resort & asks for Ivy's help for the interior design, allowing them 2 weeks together to bond, or so he hopes. This is where the story falls apart because Archer & Ivy apparently spend the first 11 days together in bed but there are no details! It starts back up in their final days together & how they are going to hate saying goodbye & they both have serious feelings for each other. But what happened?? Lots of sex apparently but we don't get the pleasure of reading about it. Archer makes a huge mistake & Ivy forgives him way too easily, blowing off their situation to his buddies rather than fessing about his love for Ivy because, hey, it is just Ivy.

Sexy, Fun, and Romantic

It's no secret that I am a huge fan of Monica Murphy's. So when she announced she would be writing the Billionaire Bachelor's Club for Avon, which also happens to be a favorite publisher of mine, I was more than a little excited. Let me break Crave down for you: Sexy, Fun, Romantic, Damn Sexy. Yes, I know I said sexy twice. Crave earned it.

Here's where I make an admission: I was a teeny bit worried about Crave. Like I said, I love Murphy's books, but there are a ton of "Billionaire" books out there, and I wondered how this one would stand out from the rest. No worries here, because just as she put a unique and beautiful spin on her New Adult series, Drew + Fable, Murphy created a billionaire story that felt fresh to me.

I think what made Crave so enjoyable for me was that Archer and Ivy were so likeable. Yes, Archer is a billionaire, but he's not a rude, bossy man who is defined by it. Yes, he's be known as a womanizer, but he's not mean, and you don't really see that part of him in Crave.

What you do see is a man who has always been above love and romance, but has been hopelessly smitten with his best friend's younger sister for years. When you meet Ivy, you can see why she stands out from the rest. I adored Ivy Emerson. Since Ivy has known Archer for so long and grew up in the same affluence, she wasn't a intimidated by Archer or his money. I loved that though Ivy finds Archer to be beyond attractive, she isn't willing just to give in to him. She is stubborn and snarky, but also a really passionate woman who knows what she wants. She doesn't shrink away or bow down to Archer, she matches him toe-to-toe. These two are quite the perfect match.

When I was getting ready to start reading Crave, I miiiiight have warned my guy that I was going to be reading a Monica Murphy book, and I miiiiight have given him the side eye. By might, I mean that I out-and-out warned him that I would be getting steamed up. And by side eye, I mean that I winked a few times and probably made an obscene gesture. (It should be noted that I'm basically as mature as a 15yo) Let's just say that Ms. Monica Murphy knows her way around the sexy scenes and there were several times I needed an ice bath.

Crave was a complete WIN for me. The story was sweet, fun, and sexy. I enjoyed Archer and Ivy and rooted for their happy ending (in more ways than one). Once again, Monica Murphy has delivered a book that I can wholeheartedly recommend. So go read it, I'll just be sitting here waiting on book two, Torn.

Sexy And Fun Summer Read!

It all starts with a million dollar bet, but it ends with a true love romance that will make you swoon and smile. Monica Murphy's latest novel "Crave" is a well-written, steamy novel that has endearing characters, a couple that has an envious amount of chemistry and some truly erotic bedroom fun.

"Crave" is the story of Archer Bancroft, a man who lives the good life and veers well away from commitment like any playboy should. Archer should easily win the "last bachelor standing" million dollar prize considering his playboy ways... however, a night of passion with Ivy Emerson could make it more difficult. Will he be able to let go of feelings that have gone untouched for so long? He must decide if he should pursue what could be a truly beautiful love or if the stakes are too high.

Archer and Ivy are two people who feel real and authentic in a way that very few authors today can create, they are fully formed and fleshed out... created with real emotions, real lives and a real love that is very apparent to the reader. The fast pace, multiple POV's and sexy scenes provide a fun writing style that I really enjoy. I look forward to reading more of her work.
