Not Mick Foley, But Not The Rock Either

This book is at it's best when Steve is being himself instead of the Stone Cold character. Unlike The Rock's book, this one is a bit more honest and not in character every moment. Still not written with as much honesty as Mick Foley's bios (Have A Nice Day & Foley Is Good and coming soon Hardcore Diaries). JR (Jim Ross) helps out mostly at the end of chapters and his insight is very helpful. Without JR this book would be a 2 or 3 stars. Not too much is said that isn't common knowledge, so I recommend this book for the more die-hard Stone Cold fans. This won't appeal to mainstream non-wrestling fans the way Mick Foley's books did.

The Toughest S.O.B. in Sports Entertainment!

Stone Cold Steve Austin was always one of my favorite wrestlers from the Attitude Era of the WWE, he was crude, he was blunt, he was tough, he was cool, and he didn't take lip from anyone, even his own boss. Well that's kinda the character I was expecting when I was reading this book. However as we all know, the people who play these characters are not these characters in real life, they are sports entertainers. I think that's why I was let down when I read this book, I wanted one thing but got another.

I'll admit that I liked finding out the history of Steve Austin, whose real name is Steve Williams. It was neat to find out he was a hell raiser as a kid and a young adult, but let's face it we were all that way to a certain degree when we were younger. We find out he dropped of college, got a job and then pursued wrestling and developed a few characters until he found his niche as Stone Cold Steve Austin.

This book just didn't really grab me as well as Mankind's book or The Rock's book did. This was was for lack of a better term, just kinda boring. It's always good to find out the real story behind a wrestler but I guess Steve's story just didn't interest me like the others did. It's still a good book and it's informative. Fans of Stone Cold will really like it and I highly recommend it for them and the hardcore wrestling fans. Casual fans like myself may not like it as much.

About The Author
Sicilian-born playwright Luigi Pirandello studied philology and taught aesthetics and stylistics in Rome in addition to writing novellas under the collected title Novelle per un anno(15 vols., 1922-37). A simple tale that became a great movie

It's a bit hard to believe that Kevin Costner turned such a simply written book into such a wonderfully sophisticated film. But that's exactly what happened.

Michael Blake's book reads as though it was written for a junior high and high school audience. That doesn't stop it from being a well-done tale of life on the prairie in 19th-century America, although why Costner made his Indians Sioux instead of Commanche as written by Blake is beyond me.

Aside from that difference, Costner obviously followed Blake's novel almost to the letter; I felt as if I was seeing the movie all over again. But Blake's writing style is something of a disappointment. After seeing the movie I was expecting a much more detailed story of John Dunbar's transformation into Dances With Wolves - something on the order of James Clavell's "Shogun". If you picked this book up looking for information on how Native Americans lived back in their glory days I suggest you look elsewhere. But if you're looking for a well done Western this is the book for you.

Shook-mani-took-tonka Oh wachi

The Costner movie based on this book is one of my favorite movies ever, so it was only natural for me to pick this book when I saw it. As most would agree, the movie is NEVER as good as the book, so I quickly surmised that, since the movie was fabulous, the book must reach vast unknown limits of greatness, right? Well, not exactly. Michael Blake's writing of DANCES WITH WOLVES is certainly a good book and a wonderful story, it is Costner's ability to turn this story into such a brilliant production that is the real achievement here.

I have found that normally, if I like a movie and read the book afterwards, it serves to enhance what I saw on film. In this case, however, the book had somewhat the opposite effect for me. There are differences between the two that only seem to diminish Costner's work. A couple of things I knew already, such as Costner's use of the Indian Chief, Ten Bears, who I knew to have been a great Comanche, not a Sioux.

Well, as it turns out, the book is written to that effect. The Indians befriended by Lt. Dunbar and portrayed in the movie as Sioux, are actually Comanche. Now I can understand the alteration here, for a couple of reasons. First of all, though most Americans are notoriously ignorant of our rich history, for the most part, people do know the Comanche were the badest of the bad and it would be an increased degree of difficulty to portray the Comanche in a positive light as being rather passive and wanting only to be left alone to live in peace. Though the Sioux were hardly any more docile, their reputation is certainly not nearly as notorious. Also, for cinematic reasons, it's certainly understandable that the domain of the northern Sioux is a more picturesque backdrop that the barren plains of the Southern Comanche. Also, the Sioux language of the movie has a more poetic feel to it and is somewhat more widely recognized than the rather obscure Shoshonean spoken by the Comanche.

I hope I haven't given the wrong impression here. This is a very enjoyable read, though it is a rare occasion where the book was not nearly as enjoyable, for me at least, as was the movie.

My Favorite Book!

"Dances With Wolves",by Michael Blake, reveals an exciting story about the war for territory between the Native Americans and Settlers. If you enjoy stories about the West this book is an excellent choice. It depicts the frontier from the viewpoint of Native Amerians. Moreover the reader is invited to experience the constant pressure that was placed on the Native Americans by the Settlers. The main character, Lieutenant John Dunbar, who was originally sympathetic to the early Settlers, joins a Native American tribe. This shift is what makes this story so unusual and unique, because the antagonists in the book become the protagonists. In the beginning of the story the author depicts Indians as the antagonists, when the warriors from Pawnee tribe kill Timmons, Lieutenant Dunbar's escort. The reader gets an impression that all of the Native Americans are evil and cruel savages. However further into the book, Indians become the protagonists when the Comanche make peace with Dunbar, and they are described as victims of colonization.
The love story between Dunbar and "Stands With A Fist",a unique Comanche white woman, makes the book even more interesting. This book is a great example of American literature and I would recommend it to everyone.

Beauty and The Beast Just got Hottttttt

So I abso-friggin-lutely LOVED this book. Beauty and the beast is my second fave Disney movie but now I wish this would be a movie so it can replace it. Love is not all hearts and flowers (even though Gabe sure does hand out roses a lot hehe) there are ups and downs but what relationship doesn't? I loved Luna's character. She is strong but can have girl moments. Gabe is...hmm how can I describe gabe... well he's an ass, egotistical, controlling, but ohmygod swoonworthy. (oops I better not say that he may growl) lol. Oh yes I don't care what anyone says Gabe has surpassed all other book boyfriends and now rates number one. Now I must read Beast Anew because I'm already having Gabe withdraws.. So if yall want to read a BadAss amazeballs totally mind consuming version of beauty and the beast then you definitely need to read this book.

Disappointing

I hate to give one star reviews, but sometimes honesty is more important than an author's ego. I was really excited to read this book because I thought it would be a twist on Beauty and The Beast. And it was...until the author got lazy. The main character keeps insisting that the heroine not take the Lord's name in vain, but then he swears like a drunken sailor. Often. The story could have been amazing, but the author seemed more interested in writing a book that was vaguely erotic. The story also needed some heavy editing. The time lines didn't line up and the characters weren't very realistic. I found myself flipping through quickly toward the end, hoping to at least get the loose ends tied up. For instance, if Luna's love is supposed to save Gabe, then do they get a happily ever after? And then there was this big thing he was supposed to save the world from. With all the story leading in that direction, I was horribly disappointed to discover that I wouldn't find out what happens until the next book. But, since this one was not that great, I'll just have to imagine. Because, unless the author gets an editor who can at least point out time line discrepancies and show how to make a character a little more realistic, I won't be reading my more of her stuff.

Beauty and the Beast-- with a modern, sexy twist!

I enjoy a good retelling of old tales in a new light. For that reason, Beast Within intrigued me. Ms. Kemp took the story of "Beauty and the Beast" and made it her own with a modern, sexy, and imaginative twist. There aren't any dancing dishes or singing candelabras in this version and it's certainly not "Disney-friendly" but there are still many nods to the original tale that will keep you smiling when you find them.

Gabriel Slade is a gorgeous, brooding Hollywood hotshot who is cursed to turn into the Beast every full moon until his curse is broken by love. Luna is one tough chick that knows her way around a sword better than anyone else and as a result she ends up doing choreography for many fight scenes in movies. Oh, she also hates Gabriel Slade, due to some long held grudges. She never has met him, but can't stand to even hear his name.

After being dragged to one of his big parties, she happens to catch his eye, and he approaches her, all the while concealing who he actually is. Sneaky little beasty that he is. Right away he realizes that Luna may be the one to break the curse, but the two of them are going to have to get past their own issues in order for that to happen. As you can imagine, that doesn't come easy. All the while lurking in the dark, there are others intent on stopping Gabe from breaking his curse and dooming him to live as the beast forever.

I loved Gabe and Luna together both when they were butting heads and when they...weren't butting heads *smirks* Ms. Kemp managed to stir up some real and explosive chemistry between these two that gave their already dimensional characters even more depth and genuine feel. The supporting cast is great as well. From Michael to Elmo, and Devonshire and many others.

Don't even get me started on how much I love the butler, Devonshire! (DEVONSHIRE!)

If you liked Beauty and the Beast when you were younger and want to read a more "grown-up" version with some serious twists and turns then you should DEFINITELY pick up a copy of Beast Within.

Interesting book that mixes pop psychology with a dose of personal expertise & detail

In Hook, Line, and Date Her by Gregg Michaelsen builds off the mixture of "pop psychology" and common sense advice that he did in his first book in his "Keys to Seduction" series, The Building of a Confident Man: How to Create Self Esteem and Become More Attractive to Women to provide a more specific look at details that can make or break a man when approaching a woman. He begins with the "Magic 7" traits/skills that he claims ever men needs to bring to have to be successful and then delves into his reasoning behind those traits. In Michaelsen's view, the key to a woman's heart is not the man's appearance, but his ability to meet her psychological needs and comforts. Appearance definitely enhances that, but as Michaelsen states it is not always. The rest of the book deals with techniques and tips on how to tailor one's mind and behavior to cater to the women a man is interested. Following this steps, according to Michaelsen, will make dating a whole lot easier.

I found this book interesting and a little more specific than Michaelsen's last book which I reviewed. Some of the more interesting content focused on effective "teasers, the "Shift", and the "Holy Grail" and the body language signals that tell if a woman is interested or not. The only potentially negative parts of this are the language and approach of delivery. The author uses a language style similar to what you might find in a magazine like Maxim, Men's Health, or GQ written in the very personal style of an online article columnist. For an eBook style, that works pretty well, but some readers may not like this approach. In addition the organization could have used a little more work.

In summary, this is an interesting read to peruse when you want to change your thinking and method of "dating style" or having trouble trying to find the right "one". Men should take a look to see Michaelsen's advice about women and women should take a look to see what Michaelsen says men believe about women.

Very Detailed Plan to Win her Heart!

This is the second book in the series, and yes, I did buy the first book the Building of a Confident Man: How to Create Self Esteem and Become More Attractive to Women (Keys to Seduction). I was able to knock this one out in multiple sessions. The book has a nice even organized pace, and many useful tips.

I am now 40 and have been on the dating scene for about two years now(divorced). I have had my ups and downs and it has not been all "sugar and spice". There is a logical sequence to the strategy within this book. The author clearly has exercised his techniques, and refined his craft. I don't find him blowing smoke all too much, and for that, very reason I give this book high marks.

*** I love the Goal Setting** Having Short, Mid, and Long Term Goals is a must, and I will now tweak mine. I enjoyed the section on practicing talking to strangers. Yeah, maybe sounds creepy, but I have used this approach, and as the author described it is just a practice ground for the woman you will later talk to, and yes, it works. I really need to do it more often, the way he describes.

Replacing Negative behavior in 2 weeks, and yes another real suggestion I have often forgot about, but now it's on the forefront of my mind as I swim in the waters of dating again. I think we have to be willing to look in the mirror to make some corrections. Also the book continues to drive home hygine, and wardrobe. Men if you aren't doing this the author suggests a hip clothing store, and asking the pretty female who works there to offer suggestions (that is brillant). I usually use Jeff Lewis from the Bravo Show Flippin Out as my role model for trendy dressing, but I like this idea too. As it puts you in contact with another gal.

The best part of the book for me is the Power of Teasing. The Goofy Nickname is one I have used, but not enough, and some other great suggestions as I paged through. I used to live in South Florida, and some of the suggestions in the book aren't for me. However, plenty can be taken and adopted as your own. A couple things I do disagree with the author on, and I'm sure you'll find a few too, he said, "walking into a restaurant I always decide" where to sit. For me I let the girl decide. I want the girl to feel secure, some women like a booth with their back to the wall others like to be in a wide-open space. I want her having a safe zone so we have a gentleman's disagreement on this. I liked the suggestions of First dates, and examples of both good and bad are illustrated. The conclusion is strong, and the book delivers for the most part from page 1 to end. Either I'm a Stupid Mark, or just becoming a refined crafty veteran dater thanks to these tips?

You can tell he wants you to know what has taken him thousands of hours to learn, but also, it's like he wants you to be a better man from his lessons. His style indicates he's had a lot of success in this area, and who's really gonna know right? Well, I attest that IT WORKS! I learned true, honest and effective steps about dating from "Hook, Line & Date Her" that covered all the fundumentals completely. The only thing Gregg didn't accomplish in his current book was to get the data for me. But thanks to him, I have a ton more confidence than I ever had before. Hey Gregg, if you read this, THANK YOU MAN! I'll be ready for the next book as soon as it's available.

Only complaint, wish you would have expanded more in your chapter "The Conveted 3". Other than that, I rate your book highly. Again, great work and thank you Gregg and thank you Amazon.
