Although the concept is good, it was full of grammatical errors, poor use of descriptive terms, and just did not appeal to me. I read a lot of fantasy, and perhaps with better editing this book may have a chance. It needs to go back to the drawing board and be professionally edited.

Ok for a first story wtitten, but wouldnt recommend.

There was a lot of use of unnecessary descriptions of things in the midst of the story telling. Also excessive use of the wrong words for what the author was trying to say. It was an ok story, but honestly had to force myself to finish it. The improper use of words, changing time lines within the story, and over descriptions of things kept turning me off to the book. I think this author will go a long way with writing, but s/he needs to work on their grasp of the English language and better define their writing style.

This is a good compilation, but if you are looking for a book that combines the entire King James version with the Joseph Smith translation, this is not it. It does not include the chapters and verses in the Bible that were not modified.

Useful and unknown even to many Mormons

As a Mormon convert who was raised Catholic (I like Pope Francis, by the way), it was while not difficult for me to accept extrabiblical revelation such as the Book of Mormon (of which I have a fairly strong testimony), at first quite another matter for me to deal with Joseph's inspired translation of the Bible. However the added text is often quite uplifting to me and centers on explaining elements of Christian faith that Mormons see as restored. The text that Joseph crossed out from the KJV is not removed from the Bible in the sense of being unavailable. The LDS Church includes the KJV among the four Standard Works in English. It is the first. So Joseph's textual changes only help and do no harm. I understand that those who are not LDS may feel differently.

Convenient companion book to the Bible—many uncorrected verses included.

No need to refer to the Bible for my favorite scriptures because even the uncorrected verses are included for the first half of Genesis and all of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. This is where the vast majority of the corrections are…the rest are scattered throughout the Bible and can be accessed as needed. With this book and my Bible, I have everything I need to better understand the scriptures.

Wonderful Introduction to Chapter Books for kids...

I love Clyde Robert Bulla's stories, and, more importantly, so do my children. In simple and accessible language, Bulla tells fascinating - often historical - stories that will keep your child riveted to the page.

The Secret Valley is set during the California Gold Rush, and relates the adventures of the Davis family (and their cat, Nugget) as they travel from Missouri by covered wagon to seek their fortune in the golden fields of California. The journey is difficult, with rivers, mountains, and prairies to cross, and regular encounters with Indians.

Once they reach California, they make friends and begin their search for gold. They learn that prospecting is hard work, and there is no guarantee of success.

In the end, the Davis family does not strike it rich in a monetary sense, but they find they have what they truly want - a new home in a beautiful new land.

Highly recommended, along with anything else written by Clyde Bulla.

Rewarding Frontier Tale

Another well-written, easy-to-read, low vocabulary chapter book by the excellent storyteller Clyde Robert Bulla. This book takes us back to the California Gold Rush and a family who travels from the Missouri River to California to become rich. The mom wants a warm cozy home with real glass windows, the daughter wants a garden with good soil where she can grow flowers around the edge and food in the middle, the son wants fields where he can raise sheep and the father wants to find gold to buy all this for his family. There is the hard journey across country, a frightening scare with Indians which turns out to be a friendly gesture at trading, the continued presence of meeting and eating with the natives and finally the hard living in tent city as the father and son discover panning for gold is not the windfall they had expected it to be. But an old man, Father John, gives them directions to Secret Valley where he tells them they will find what they are looking for. When they reach this fertile garden of Eden they find no gold but realize it does have everything they have been searching for. A rewarding story offering the difference between the greed for gold and finding the things you want are sometimes much more simple and closer to hand. As per the time period the illustrations are monochrome and done in sepia tones to match the frontier atmosphere and are lovely realistic drawings.

"In this book, Frank and Ellen travel to California during the time of the Gold Rush, hoping to get rich. All they find is one nugget of gold and some gold dust. Their friend, Father John, suggests a place called Secret Valley, which has gold everywhere. He gives them a map of this place, and after a while, they go to Secret Valley. They do not get rich by gold but do find what they are looking for: a garden, a nice house, and a place to raise sheep and goats. I think you should get this book."

I love the music of the 20th Century, especially rock and roll and everything that came after. The Bees Gees had two careers, one in the Sixties when they sounded a lot like the Beatles and again in the late Seventies when they defined the music of Disco for the world.

The Bee Gees were born in England, moved to Australia where they got their start and then moved back to England and then eventually took up residence in America.

This book is about the group, but even more importantly, it's about the music. This series is my way of honoring the people that have brought so much joy to our lives over the years. The Bee Gees defined music for a generation.

This is an unauthorized fan tribute.

Please STOP!!!!

People please stop giving this book 5* reviews. For the love of God!!! This is like one of those slapped together books they crank out for boy bands that just hit. It reads at the 5th grade level and goes into no depth at all. I enjoyed some of the background the way I enjoy reading Wikipeda. And just like Wikipeda this book glosses over huge chunks of important periods in a paragraph.

Most sadly the author doesn't really understand the Bee Gees. Take this paragraph for example..

"I am a follower of the single hits more so than the albums. I grew up listening to the radio and following the Top 40 and that is where my love of music originates. However, I realize that most people look upon the work of an artist to include everything they recorded, even if it was never heard on the radio. "Odessa" is rated, by the critics as one of the best albums that the Bee Gees recorded during their career. And yet, it only produced one weak single."

Wow. Judging an album on its lack of singles is always a great way to overview an album. How many Dylan, Pink Floyd, Allman Brothers, or even great Beach Boys albums didn't single? Worse yet, I guarantee you the author has never even heard the Odessa album. I promise you that. So we're reading a book by someone who is somewhat familar with the Bee Gees, but only their hits. Really?!?!?! Furthermore, if you want to learn about band dynamics, musical developments, inspiration, or stories behind the music,or even just the author's own critical analysis, forget it. Like I said, "no depth at all."

Another great title in the world of rock n'roll

I've read all of James' books on the Beatles, so was interested to see what he had to say about the Bee Gees. And, I wasn't disappointed. Because I didn't follow the Bee Gees as closely as I did the Beatles, I didn't really know that much about their history or much of their music. One thing I like about all of James' books, including this one, is the interesting tidbits of history that he includes - not only about the music and the bands, but about the time period in which they became popular. Another hit!

I thought I would be more engaged since I was very familiar with the BeeGees

I found that I was not as engaged as I was with
the Johnny Cash one, and figured out that the
reason was that this didn't contain the same sorts
of stories and anecdotes as the Johnny Cash book. I got to
feel Johnny Cash and how his brother's death could have
impacted his life and the guilt he might have felt, etc.

This book was more of a "they recorded this one in this year
and released it here and not there and it did this well
or that well ending up at this spot on the charts here
but only at this # on the charts over there." Not that
that kind of data isn't relevant - it is, but I would have
liked to have more stories...things that they did, stuff that
happened to them with a little more story line (like a
paragraph or three, not just a sentence "...and then
they got divorced.") and less historical
fact after fact about each song or album released.
